1. Brazilian Ruby Clytolaema rubricauda, male, Itatiaia National Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, September 14, 2003.  A Brazilian endemic, found in forested habitats in the the east of the country.  Note the glittering green breast, metallic purple throat and white postocular spot.

2. Brazilian Ruby C. rubricauda, male, Itatiaia National Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, September 14, 2003.  Same individual as above.  Together with the Black Jacobins Florisuga fuscus, these large hummingbirds dominated the feeders at the Hotel do Ype.
